Ghostbusters Dev: PS3 Lead Simpler Than Xbox 360
When a next-gen multiplatform title is released, it's usually Xbox 360 or PC that was used as the lead platform.
After all, they both have been around longer than PS3, and devs usually go with what they know. However, with the upcoming Ghostbusters game, Terminal Reality started off working on PlayStation 3. Then they worked backwards from there.
“We’ve found that writing for the PS3 first and then porting to the 360 and PC is a much simpler and more efficient procedure,” Terminal Reality president Mark Randell told MTV.
“The multiprocessing model of the PlayStation 3 is not a general-purpose model. It simultaneously uses one main processor and six specialized co-processors: the Synergetic Processing Units, or SPU's," he explained.
"(Xbox 360/PC) share a general-purpose multiprocessor coding model,” he added. “The 360 uses three general-purpose PowerPC processors, and most current PCs use between one and four Intel or AMD processors.”
So they went the specialized route, and we'll get to see how it all turned out this September.
